Rapid Growth of VoIP Providers

Posted by admin on Mar 1, 2010 in VoIP services

VoIP has become one of the most significant additions to new technology as it provides an affordable and easy substitute to the analog phone lines. All over the world, people are rapidly switching over to this service in order to save money and to easily get connected with their friends and family. But as this service is rapidly growing so are its providers. Latest news shows that VoIP is either substituting or complementing the traditional phone lines with such an increasing pace that its service has increased from 2.2 to 2.9 million within a year. And this survey does not include Skype that puts forward free VoIP services, and nor any cable operators.

While huge expenses pound a person from one side or another, VoIP is one of the few that provide an inexpensive alternative to a local or international phone call. Not only this it also provides other services such as call waiting, caller id, three-way conferencing etc, making it all the more useful and economical.

Among the top service providers of VoIP right now, Vonage America is taking the lead by providing half i.e. fifty-four percent of the service. It surely puts one’s Internet to work by providing a reliable connection and extremely cheap, unlimited local and international calls ($14.00/mo). However, even with this dominance in the market, its market has tumbled and reduced due to investors’ mistrust.

Next in the race comes Verizon Voicewing. Voicewing gives an add-on VoIP service to its existing DSL users. Other than that, VoIP is also provided to non-Verizon broadband users at $ 34.95/ mo for unlimited minutes. VoiceWing provides relatively better long-distance rates to countries in Western Europe and Asia, but only covers USA within its unlimited plans.

AT&T Call Vantage is not far behind and actually holds the second position with Verizon. BroadVoice, SunRocket, Lingo, and packet8 are also a part of the competition. These services by comparison to Verison Voicewing, are cheap as they charge around $ 19.95/mo.

In today’ world, price does hold the main importance for an average person. The more the price, the more a person would run towards another inexpensive opportunity. Companies need to keep the pressure of expensive charges in mind while constructing their services.

Quality also holds as much importance as the price. If the price of one service provider attracts a person, the quality plays a lot of role in dissuading the very person. Faltering quality leads to a faltering support of customers. People tend to get attracted by the rate a provider offers and then of course start using it, but as soon they find the quality degenerating and at last intolerable, they move over to another service provider.

Companies should provide a cheap substitute to traditional phone lines. Yet this inexpensive and affordable price should not hold cheap quality. An average of twelve percent VoIP users tend to leave their providers in order to move to another one. Thus, in order to dominate the world of VoIP providers, companies should not take these factors lightly.
